Heart is Where the Home Is

In the exhibition Heart is Where the Home Is, I explore the concept of "home" and the fundamental desire for belonging and stability.  I examine these themes in an interdisciplinary manner, using a variety of mediums: a large paper-cut piece, an assemblage hanging sculpture, several embroidered works, and an interactive sculpture.

Central to the work is the dollhouse iconography and the use of tent/fort structures, which reflect how children’s play—through their toys and games—shapes their early conceptions of home. These objects, which are representations of safety, aspiration, and imagination, serve as indicators of the way our childhood experiences embed idealistic concepts of home into our psyche.
